Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about paint matching, prep, application, shipping, curing, and general ordering questions.

1. How do I find the right color match for my vehicle?

Check your vehicle’s paint code sticker. It’s commonly located in the driver door jamb, glovebox, trunk, or under the hood. A quick online search can usually help locate it.

Still unsure? Send us a message and we’ll help identify the correct color.

2. How much paint do I need?

One can of basecoat — or one set of groundcoat + midcoat — covers approximately 4–5 square feet.

  • Small repairs / mirrors: 1 can
  • Bumpers, doors, fenders: 2 cans recommended
  • Hoods or roofs: 3+ cans recommended

Our kits with primer and clear coat are the easiest way to make sure you have everything needed for the repair.

3. Do I need primer or clear coat?

Yes — all of our paints require clear coat.

  • Raw metal: use primer
  • Plastic parts: use our plastic adhesion promoter before priming
  • Prepped painted surfaces: paint can usually be applied directly

4. How should I prep the surface?

Proper prep is critical for paint adhesion and finish quality.

See our full touch-up instructions for sanding, cleaning, masking, and prep guidance.

5. Can your paint be used on plastic, metal, or fiberglass?

Yes. For plastic parts, scuff the surface with a fine gray scuff pad and apply our plastic adhesion promoter before painting.

Primer is not required over adhesion promoter, but it is highly recommended for best results.

6. How long does the paint take to dry?

  • Wait 5–10 minutes between coats
  • Primer should cure at least 30 minutes before wet sanding
  • Allow paint to cure 30 minutes before clear coat
  • Do not sand the basecoat before clear

After sanding primer, clean the area thoroughly and allow it to dry before painting.

7. When can I polish or wax the painted area?

Clear coat should dry for at least 24 hours before handling.

  • Wait 24–48 hours before wet sanding
  • Wait approximately 30 days before waxing or sealing

8. Is your paint an OEM match?

In most cases, yes. Our paints are designed to match OEM factory colors.

Every order includes a test card. Spray 2–3 light/medium coats followed by clear coat to verify the match before painting the vehicle.

If something looks off, send us a message and we’ll help troubleshoot.

9. Do you offer wholesale or body shop pricing?

Yes. Contact us regarding bulk ordering, dealership accounts, or body shop partnerships.

10. Do I need special equipment?

In addition to paint, you’ll typically need:

11. Can I spray indoors?

We strongly recommend spraying outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.

Avoid spraying in direct sunlight or on extremely hot or cold surfaces. Always use proper respiratory protection.

12. What temperature is best for painting?

Ideal conditions are:

  • 65°F–80°F
  • Humidity below 70%
  • Clean, dry, room-temperature surfaces

Spraying in temperatures that are too hot or too cold may lead to cracking, poor adhesion, or finish issues.
