Recommended Paint Process
The steps below show the recommended product order for the type of repair you are performing. Depending on the condition of the surface and the type of paint ordered, some repairs may require additional prep or materials.
In most cases, you will be applying multiple products — not just one can of paint. Primer helps create adhesion and fill sanding scratches, the color coat provides the factory color match, and clear coat protects the finish while adding gloss and durability.
Base Coat — Metal Surfaces
Recommended for repairs on bare metal, sanded factory paint, or repaired body panels.
Builds adhesion, fills sanding scratches, and creates a smoother surface before color.
Provides the factory-matched OEM paint color.
Final protective layer that adds gloss, UV resistance, and durability.
Base Coat — Plastic Surfaces
Recommended for bumpers, mirrors, trim pieces, and other plastic components.
Helps paint properly bond to raw or scuffed plastic surfaces.
